Brain-Storm Glass Rear Window

Glass rear window. This window will lay flat when the top is down. Heated.

Installation

I had a local upholstery shop install the window. They charged $160.00; I had heard $100.00-150.00, so maybe I should have shopped around. But they did do an impeccable job.

To install the electric plumbing was extremely easy. Just plug things in according to the simple instructions provided. I do always hate taking off the cover below the steering wheel, though. (Maybe because I have a heavy J & S box stuck on top of it.) And, if you have never taken off the carpet in the trunk: the trick is to lift the centers of the plastic pins first, and then pull them out. According to the instructions, there would be a dust cover on the plug next to the window: there was none on mine. Mazda saving some more money.

Evaluation

The upholstery shop loved it. They had seen the Robbins windows before, but not the Brain-Storm ones. I gave them Brain-Storm's number...

No more Meguiar's! Ice-scraper safe! (Well, I guess I can live without in Tallahassee, but I have plans.) No ugly scratched rear window! No ugly, flapping, window protector to deal with! Much more expensive look of my car.

You do have to be more careful with lowering the window. But I always was anyway. And if you have the habit of leaving things on the shelf area, you have to be careful that they do not break the glass. But since anything on the shelf might be attractive to any amateur thief with a pocket knife, I never have anything there in the first place. Rear vision is almost unchanged (can't say if you are shorter than 5 foot 6: the bottom is somewhat higher than the plastic window.)
