I drove US 30 and Nebraska 2. US 30 was OK. NE 2 was first nice, then turned stunning when I entered the sand dunes region. And it was almost deserted over all its magnificent miles.

I did not really intend to follow 2 all the way to Alliance; I wanted to turn off onto scenic 27. But it was getting late and the additional 40 miles to Alliance seemed the shortest distance to anything likely to offer any lodging. Also, it was raining heavily, so driving the 40 miles back tomorrow will still be the first time I see that road.
