I followed US 2 back east. No mountains obstructing my view today; as suggested by the elevation map below, I could see for miles.

I found a room at the El Rancho Motor Hotel in Williston, North Dakota. It has a surprisingly high-class restaurant right in the hotel. Blackened salmon and Irish coffee is quite an improvement over personal pan pizza. The room, for $40, is more like a one-bedroom appartment in size.
