Today I crossed the Hudson at I 84, then went 9W south. I tried to detour over 218, which Ron Grundy's book describes as a "serpentine cliff-hanger" but it was closed. From either end I got nowhere. 9W was good, though. From there back onto I 84. (I am trying to get somewhat closer to Atlanta.)

From I 84, I went down the eastern side of the Delaware Water Gap. After 521, which is hard to find, (it starts immediately east of the bridge,) down all sorts of small and often empty very scenic roads. The Easter side of the DWG is much better than 209 which I took on the way up. Watch for deer though. A deer and her child crossed the road just in front of me. Mindful of warnings in rec.autos.makers.mazda.miata about "tail-end Charlie"s, I slowed to a crawl (with emergency flashers) and looked around for Charlie. Yes, there he was, a second child and obviously eager to catch up with the gang. Bottom line: if you see deer, slow to a crawl and watch for more. I already lost a fender to a deer once. Somewhat later, there was again another deer crossing the road in just front of me. And in no particular hurry to get off the road and away. In fact, I was able to take out my digital camera, go through the entire lens opening and focussing sequence and take his picture, him looking calmly at this guy in his convertible from the side of the road.

Finally on I 80 and now starting I 81. I absolutely need to be in Atlanta on Sunday. I see a lot of Interstate in Bozo's future. At least for right now.
