The rain stopped and the sun came out later in the day. Still, West Virginia was a problem. I am trying to travel by what are marked as scenic roads on my Rand McNally. There is absolutely nothing marked that would get me from southern WV to Northern PA. Trusting to luck, I finally decided to take US 16 from the middle of West Viginia to the Ohio river. Bingo! A truly excellent road. Definitely scenic in my opinion, and with lots of fun twisty parts. Add to that little traffic on this Monday afternoon and life of a Miata owner does not get much better than that.
From the end of US 16, I followed the upper Ohio river bank. Marked as scenic, and it is. Then US 68 east into Pensylvania. Not marked scenic but a good road. Ended up in a motel in Zelienople (sic). Almost went on I79 to find a motel; if there are any elsewhere on US 7 and US 68, they do keep them well hidden. This one I spotted by chance a fraction of a second after I was turning onto I 79 North. I did manage to cancel the turn. One day of interstates is bad enough.
