Through Oklahoma over roads through fields full of color. Bushes full of wild flowers are often hanging way over the already narrow roads. Very hot though. At a quarter to 7, one bank thermometer in a small town read 94 degrees, the other 96 with the sun already gone behind heavy cumulus clouds. Checked in at the Day's Inn in Erich just before all hell broke lose. Had the top up pretty much all day with the AC on. I wonder how it is going to be in that place in California I will pass through where summer temperatures range from 100-120 F.

Also again having trouble finding gas above 91 octane. Make that "having no success." I dialed in a 5 degree ignition retard with the Link keypad. I can't hear any knock with the MP3 player playing. Hey, it is better than walking.

Despite these minor annoyances, the drive is generally fun and often very beautiful.
