Thursday, 07/07/05 Driving Mountain Roads

Curvey mountain roads all day. Incessant rain all day. Excellent roads, but their wet surface cramps my style a bit. I took only one picture, and then had to worry whether my explicitly non waterproof camera would be damaged.

At the end of the day, I was really getting worried about whether I would be able to find lodging anywhere. Earlier, I did not want to make a major detour to the closest interstate, so I hoped that if I went to US 219, I would find something. Not really. Then I figured the intersection of two US highways, 219 and 250, would be a better bet. At first it looked that too was the familiar three houses and a church. But then I saw a clean little motel with a nondescript restaurant next door along the road past Huttonville. Room was fine. Fries and cheeseburger were fine too. Not to mention not having to drive many more hours in the dark while already tired in heavy rain and mist on wet roads that every five minutes throw a surprise curve at you.
