Monday, 07/18/05 Wandering through Maine

It was drab weather when I left. I started driving the rest of coastal US 1, but quickly tired of it. The road, while marked as scenic on my map, was as bad as they come, and the traffic was stop and go. At the first chance, I took a smaller road out of there. This was generally speaking quite successful. Though one road, ME 117, had lots of construction and several miles of true dirt track. But in general, the roads were rural and scenic.

There were some sunny periods, as well as some heavy rain near the end. I did not get around to making any pictures; the grey skies and heavy traffic did not invite trying to find a place to stop. There were some nice spots, though. I called it a day relatively early at an inn with an Applebee's next door.
